Vote Looms on Alpha Centauri’s Security Council Ambitions

The League of Nations is scheduled to vote on whether to grant the United Centauri Republic a permanent seat on the Security Council. If successful, it would be the first non-legacy nation to be included in the body, a move supporters call long overdue.

For the proposal to be approved, the LoN Charter would need to be amended, requiring a simple majority of all member states and a two-thirds majority among current Security Council members.

Our Analysis: The Security Council is the League’s only organ with binding authority over all members. A permanent seat is the clearest marker of great power status and something Alpha Centauri has pursued for decades.

Earth’s first colony began as a League of Nations Mandate with broad international backing. But its conduct during the Solar Wars has fueled perceptions of it as an OTO proxy. Past efforts to expand the Security Council were vetoed by both the Axis and COMINTERN.
