Sci-fi epic Nekyia Corridor IX debuted to lukewarm box office returns and harsh reviews, with critics citing many elements lifted wholesale from other popular series. Hopes the Matt Williams’ led sequel might offset a 6% yearly box office slump appear to have fallen flat.

At the New Jamestown premiere, director Phillip Oni said he “wasn’t focused on the critics” and that the film was “for the fans.” Yet with fan toxicity and division evident across networks, the franchise’s future appears increasingly uncertain.
