French Army Repels Fierce Separatist Border Incursion On Callao
Over a hundred separatist tanks and armoured fighting vehicles have been destroyed after a fierce border incursion on Callao. The attack targeted a sector of a demilitarized zone held by the French Army, which “skillfully repelled” the assault by a “far larger” force.
Deployed across a series of hills overlooking a key river crossing, French peacekeepers engaged advancing armor and infantry with a combination of ATGMs, field guns, and drones. Footage released by France’s Ministry of War captured French positions taking several hits.
After more than six hours of fierce fighting, reinforcing squadrons of French and British cruiser tanks mounted a sudden counter-attack, destroying separatist recon elements and other support units positioned on the far shore of the river.
Several dozen peacekeepers were killed or wounded, though the Ministry of War has not provided an exact figure. Responsibility for the attempted incursion was claimed by the Revolutionary Nationalist Army of Callao.
Our Analysis: The secession of Palomino, the Callao Republic’s largest city cluster, triggered a brief but intense civil war in 2279. Fighting drew in O.T.O. forces, who intervened to stabilize the Republic and prevent a wider collapse across the wider Encruzilhada subcluster.
Since then, the Palomino-based Callao People’s Federation has staged repeated incursions across the planet’s sprawling, heavily fortified armistice line, sustained by vast flows of military aid smuggled through the Calypso Deeps.
Militias like the Revolutionary Nationalist Army conduct most of these incursions. While Palomino claims they are rogue remnants of the civil war, intelligence indicates their border crossing operations are heavily supported by the Federation’s regular army.
Callao’s border has seen flare-ups for years, but the scale of this latest assault feels different. Do you see this as another contained clash, or a sign the conflict is sliding toward something larger? We welcome your comments.
